Today an unexpected event happened: I was going to the bank to withdraw money for the weekend when I saw to my left a woman sitting down on a little stone wall. Her head was bowed and in her hands. Since she was on the opposite side of 23 Mile Road, I decided to investigate when I would be coming that way back from the bank. Coming back, I pulled into the apartment complex driveway since there was no stopping on 23. My window on my passenger side was down, so I called to her from the car so she would not feel afraid of a stranger. She would have to option to answer or not. I said: "I saw you awhile ago and thought maybe you were in some kind of trouble. Can I help in anyway?" She responded by saying, "I am in a little trouble. My bus does not come until 6:00pm and I am very bored (and hot) waiting." Now it was not quite noon yet; this would be a long wait for her. We talked a little more and she was comfortable with me; I agreed to take her to Marine City which was 20 miles away for sure. She said something that struck me to the heart: "I have been praying that God would God would send me some kind person to help me out." When I later asked her why her head was so bowed when I first saw her, she said: "I was praying; and you were the answer to my prayer."
Now what happened here is an anatomy of how the Holy Spirit works. I saw her praying; and she was praying for me to come. I did not know that she was praying and did not know I was the answer to her prayer. But the Holy Spirit knew exactly what was going on. My noticing her in the first place was because her head was bowed down. She did not at all see me pass her bye the first time because I was on the opposite side of the street. But God pulled all this together so nicely. He hears our heart's prayers. He knows whom to touch to answer our prayer.
When I dropped off Donna at her place near the Lake, she bent over from the passenger side and gave me a nice kiss on the right cheek - and I thought of St. Paul's words: "Greet one another with a holy kiss."
Yet the truth was: It was the Holy Spirit who really gave both of us His own grace-filled and gentle
"Holy Kiss"!
Love, Pio
