Today is the Feast of the Mother of the Angels. This feast is celebrated only by the Franciscans of the world. The Mother of the Angels chapel in Assisi in Italy is where St. Francis began his Franciscan order. Actually he was influenced by the Benedictans who branched off into the Trappist Cistercians. St. Francis told his brothers to never, never leave this Chapel because he felt that Mary's presence was there.
St. Francis told his brothers to always say the name of Jesus and Mary with great respect and honor and gentleness. It was in the Chapel of Our Lady of the Angels that his brothers first made their profession and vows. St. Francis also received Clare of Assisi as a nun in this little Chapel. St. Francis also started in the Chapel the secular order of lay-Franciscans - the Third Order of Franciscans.
The Catholic Church does celebrate Mary as the Queen of all Angels and Saints. This honor is called "dulia" - a special love for our Lady not given to anyone else. But we honor and love her a only a human being; but the best human being ever to live who was not divine. She is only human; therefore, we commune with her; but never ever worship her. "Thou shall worship God alone." says Jesus to satan. But Mary did say in Luke's Gospel: "My soul magnifies the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my Savior; for He who is mighty has done great things for me; and holy is His name. ..All generations will call me blessed.." Mary was the most humble person to ever live. God chose her to be the Mother of God, Jesus. The Angel Gabriel called her "full of grace" the very reason why the Catholic Church has defined her Immaculate Conception to be a dogma of the Chruch. That means that at the moment of her conception she was redeemed and kept free of any original sin. She was conceived immaculately.
It is interesting that Lucifer did not want to worship Jesus as God because He would be man and God. Lucifer thought that Jesus should be an angel if God wanted to humiliate Himself. But to become man was too much for Lucifer. Now, a human being, Mary, has taken over as Queen of Heaven, Queen of all Creation. Mary ever strives to bring all to Christ. She says now what she said at Cana: "Do whatever He tells you!"
Love, Pio
