Why did God make you? He called you out of nothingness into existence. He could have left you in nothingness; and you would not have known about it. Now you are aware: of yourself, of others, of God as your Creator. You are not only aware; you are aware that you are aware that you are aware. That makes you a self-reflexive being who can know and love. That is God's very image and likeness in you: that you can know and love.
Now that you are, you can be sure of this: you will always be! Even the fallen angels are still in existence. Seems that God does not take souls out of existence once He has created one.
Seems that you are going to be around now just as long as God is around.
But why did He pick you to become? He must have seen something in you that so attracted Him that He did not want His heaven to be without you.
It is a mystery that God loves you so much as to call you out of the darkness of nothingness into the light of existence that is able to know and love. It is a mystery that He would do that. There must be something very special about you because He left uncreated millions of millions of potential others that He did not create.
He knows all about you. He knows at once all that you will ever say to Him for all eternity. He can see it as a total whole. The Psalmist says of God: "With You I shall always be."
Sometimes we can be very short sighted: for example, after Vincent Van Gogh had only sold one painting in his life, he decided to end it all and shot himself in the stomach in a wheat field. He lay there for about 12 hours and decided to get up and go home. A doctor got him back to health. But he still died about 4 weeks later of a broken heart. His brother, Theo also was so sad at losing Vincent that he died also. Both rest side by side. Collectors have made many fortunes from Vincent's painting ever since. If Vincent has waited about 5 years, he would have been a very weathy man who would have gotten married which was his heart's desire. But what happened to him? He lost HOPE.
Vincent forgot that God had a plan for his life: plans of love and goodness not of woe. When a man gives up HOPE, he loses himself. Despair is believing that things cannot get better; but they always can get better because a Providential God exists...and loves each one of us, His children.
God has plans to make each one of great: Great in God's eyes not necessarily in our own. When God makes a person like yourself, He has greatness in mind - eternal greatness. Our Lady said: "My soul magnifies the Lord....because He who is Mighty has done great things for me." God made her for greatness. She just said: "Let it be according to your word" to the angel. Submissiveness and obedience seem to be the very stuff of greatness.
HOPE IS THE REALITY THAT GOD LOVES YOU AND ME...which is our very HOPE in God: HIS LOVE for us gives us HOPE.
Father, we give You our whole being now and forever. Please let Your glory shine in us so that we can give You glory now and forever. Amen.
Love, Pio
